What are those exercises for easing heel pain? Or better yet, how can we strengthen our feet and prevent these common issues?
We’ve all been there. You’re walking down the street, and you step on a crack. Or maybe you’re just getting out of bed after a long day at work, and suddenly you feel this sharp pain shoot up from your heel.
If you have plantar fasciitis, heel pain can be debilitating—but luckily, it’s also pretty easy to treat! There are simple stretches and exercises you can do at home that will help ease the pain and prevent further injury. Here are four simple stretches and exercises for easing heel pain:
Plantar Fasciitis Stretches: To stretch your plantar fascia, stand on a step with a towel placed under your heel. Keep the knee straight and slowly lower yourself down until you feel a stretch in the bottom of your foot. Hold for 30 seconds and repeat three times.
Stretching: Stretch your foot by flexing it toward your shin while sitting or lying down. Hold this position for 30 seconds or longer, then repeat three times with each foot.
Foot flexion exercise: While standing barefoot on a firm surface (like grass or concrete), place one hand behind your head with your elbow bent so that it is parallel to the floor (like a salute). With the other hand, extend your toes back as far as they will go without forcing them beyond their natural range of motion. Hold this position for 20 seconds before relaxing into a squatting position with knees straight but not locked (like sitting in an imaginary chair). Hold this
Heel Spurs Exercises: To treat heel spurs, try rolling a tennis ball under your foot. This will cause some discomfort at first but will help reduce inflammation over time by breaking up calcium deposits that are causing pain in the area where they’re located within your body’s tissue structures (usually near where bones meet tendons). Do this every day for five minutes each time until you can go without feeling any pain or discomfort during exercise or daily activities – then increase to ten minutes daily if needed (but be sure not to push yourself too far!).
